Speech - Mrs. Dixon
Name: Edna Dixon
Position: Speech/Language Pathologist
Department: Speech
Date: 09-02-09

The Speech-Language Therapy program is an alive, active, vibrant and an essential component of the dynamics that serve to make up th Pembroke Community Consolidated School District#259.

The therapy program serves the school district as a "related service" model. In this role, the program provides additional support needed in the areas of speech and language arts development for the district students.

One of the philosophie of the therapy program is that "early intervention is critical in obtaining favorable outcomes with any type of speech-language difficulty."

In keeping with this philosophy of early intervention being critical to favourable outcomes, the therapy program routinely screens all of its entering preschoolers, new students to the district and children referred by parents and teachers with some communication concerns.

Without fail, "following-up" to the screening is completed in a timely manner in the form of consultants, referrals, formal speech-language evaluations, and domain, eligibility and IEP meetings, all specific to the student and their needs.

The final step in the process is the student recieving direct speech and language therapy services set forth in an IEP (Individaul Educational Plan) based upon the results of the evaluation and consistent with the Illinois State Satndards for school.

All of the foregoing is in keeping with another of our beliefs. That belief is, "Good Speech And Language Skills Help Us To Succeed In Today's World"!
